Nokia has officially announced today that ,they are in the process of offering a solution for the consumers who purchased Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet’s travel chargers and for the people who got some variants of supplied chargers (European and UK variant of the AC-300 charger) .
Microsoft has learned a good lesson from Android it seems. As a new business strategy ,Microsoft has announced it’s Windows 8.1 Operating system for devices bellow 9 inches screen , is free .
It is an enormous move from Microsoft in the history. Microsoft is known for it’s strict money making policy for long time .But the model of giving something free has been adopted after a learning curve,I guess .
Microsoft has revealed it’s redesigned Internet Explorer 11 at it’s Build 2014 conference held at Moscone Center in San Francisco from April 2 to April 4, 2014.,where they have announced the major changes they have made to Windows 8.1 – the latest update for Windows 8.
The new Internet Explorer 11 comes with more software and hardware compatibilities including hardware accelerated WebGL . Enhancements have been made for better media experience like HTML 5 videos . Windows 7 and 8 Operating systems will get the IE 11 in the coming days .
Microsoft has announced yesterday Windows 8.1 ,the upcoming update for over 1.5 billion Windows 8 users world wide. In a features briefing ,the media and participants got to know the key features of Windows 8.1. Microsoft plans to offer the update starting from April 8 this year. The update will be delivered via internet as like a service pack . You do nothing for it ,just wait . Head off to know the new features now ..
The answer is , simple as “No”
The software giant-Microsoft is about to release the next big thing to the masses on the 26th of October 2012. There are mixed up waves of expectations.People like me are waiting for Windows 8 and some people are eagerly waiting to know more about the RT Tablets with Windows 8 from MS.
Luckily Techcrunch has done a good job by providing us lot of information about the upcoming Surface RT Tablets .
Microsoft continuously fails to understand the concept of mobile computing and the expectations of the users . The Windows Phone is a failure product from the company. No matter how big they are ,they could not get the WP on the top of the market for many years. Likewise now the Tablet concept also seems to be a failure . Microsoft RT Tablets are over sized ,chunky and the Operating system inside is not matured yet. You don’t have enough apps to use in your RT Tablets ,and technically it is hard to get more soon (The software codes of the famous existing apps should be re written for the processor running in the RT Tabs)
Want to know more about the RT Tablets ,just read the full review at Techcrunch
Most anticipated final version of the Windows 8 is ready for general public ,and Amazon.com ,and other online retailers are now have opened their shops to take pre orders of Windows 8. Microsoft has fixed the Window 8 released date to 26th of October 2012.
Consumers can pre order the DVD version of Windows 8 the U.S. for $69.99 from Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, and the Microsoft Store.
For those (like me )who want a new PC/Laptop with the new Windows 8 OS can look for the online stores of the hardware partners like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Samsung, and Sony – they have started to take the pre orders online too. You can also purchase the Windows 8 upgrade via Windows.com for $39.99. The online and boxed upgrade options, however, only run through Jan. 31, 2013 so make the move sooner rather than later.
If you have purchased a Windows 7 PC since June 2012 , you are blessed with an upgrade of Windows 8 just for $14.99 starting Oct. 26.
We had a Global Mobile Giant called Nokia, was ruling for years ,Then Apple started to boom ,later Android entered the game, wanted to take the leadership and almost done now !- S.Manimaran,TeckDiary.com
Did Nokia lose the vision after Stephen Elop ?
Nokia , one time emperor of Mobile phones ,now is a humble silent player in the highly crowded mobile market. Nokia had the creativity and audacity to come up with new innovations time to time. Nokia created tons of own patents for the mobile industry. Best imaging devices ,gadgets with best connectivity ,best Maps and Apps .It was true ,that Symbian started to face a some loses by rival platforms like IOs and Android ,Later in 2010 Nokia’s Board of directors have brought in Stephen Elop as the C.E.O ,for unknown reason ,then the company had started to see a great fall instead of step by step growth .
Just before Stephen Elop took the office, at the end of Q4 of 2010 Nokia’s market share was 29%. then the next quarter for which we have data, Q3 of 2011, Nokia’s market share has crashed to 14%. Nokia used to have a huge fan base , thousands of die hard blogs and blogger to do free PR for them ,all had been slashed into very very small share within 6 to 8 months , as the Symbian Platform had been criticized by Nokia’s very own C.E.O “ a Burning Platform “,and declared to be ended sooner . But then they have started to ship Some Symbian based mid range phones with Symbian Belle O/S afterwards ,comfortably stopped mentioning Symbian Belly ,they call it just Belly .
From the time of the shift of Symbian to Microsoft’s WP O/S (policy wise only, when Stephen Elop announces the shift he was not ready with a Nokia Windows Phone to show the press even ),Nokia started to see all the downward trends in terms of sales ,profits and stability . No phones from Nokia hit any record of sales like N8 did few months back from the shift,no any Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone operating system survived either .Nokia failed to capture any market remarkably as planned .
When I went through the Wikipedia’s pages of Stephen Elop ,I cannot see a success story behind him .
Elop was a director of consulting for Lotus Development Corporation before becoming CIO for Boston Chicken in 1992, which filled for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1998. In the same year, he joined Macromedia’s Web/IT department and worked at the company for seven years, where he held several senior positions, including CEO from January 2005 for three months before their acquisition by Adobe Systems was announced in April 2005.-
He was then president of worldwide field operations at Adobe, tendering his resignation in June 2006 and leaving in December, after which he was the COO of Juniper Networks for exactly one year from January 2007-2008.
Before starting at Nokia, Elop worked for Microsoft from January 2008 to September 2010 as the head of the Business Division, responsible for the Microsoft Office line of products, and as a member of the company’s senior leadership team. During his time at Microsoft, the Business Division released Office 2010. – Wikipedia
The longest he worked was as a senor management officer ,that was 7 years at Macromedia, but the the C.E.O level positions he held did not last more than a year in any company ,surprisingly Nokia ! .
What is the common thing Nokia had, you can see within Apple now ?
As all of us know ,Steve Jobs was the company’s remarkable and buzz creating C.E.O ,the qualities he had created a huge loyal customers for Apple. The way he presented his devices on each press meetings ,release events, brought the attention of everyone ,and obviously the products revealed by him also had some thing to talk about .
Considering the recent moves of Apple ,specially the missing Wow factor of iPhone 5 ,there is enough space to thing about the missing innovative part from Apple. iPhone 5 had a record of sales ,of course ,but that is done by the loyal customer base ,that can shift from the platform any time ,if no new things coming in, to keep them thrilled (Like something happened to Nokia ).
Apple iPhone5 still enjoys the reputation created by Steve Jobs in terms of sales ,but how long you can keep the image unchanging without adding value?
- We all know almost the full specifications of the Apple iPhone few months before the release date – Steve Jobs had an iron curtain around the company ,that never permitted this much revelations .
- Current C.E.O Tim Cook ,doesn’t seem to have any PR skills closer to Steve Jobs ,I mean the presentation skills ,and the ideas to create a buzz in a product launch or release.
- Apple iPhone had a kick start ,then a steady growth and now seems to be remaining same in terms of ideas
- Apple’s iPhone started becoming less impressive (of course for techies )
Who else playing well ?
No doubt it is Samsung ,Samsung is the shiny star at the moment which delivers number of different innovative gadgets like S3,Note 2,Android Cams etc. Google gets tons of hits these days for Samsung Phone searches .
Copy Cat case and Samsung
Yes ,there is small fall caused by the Apple’s case ,but Apple itself had infringed plenty of patents from Nokia ,then settled the matter out of the court by paying licensing fees .For instance , using Bluetooth,Wi-Fi and mobile data connection together in a single device is Nokia’s patent ,that is widely used by all major phones these days.

As lot of bloggers including myself predicted in the past ,Nokia is about to rethink about it’s business relationship with Microsoft . Nokia has lost a huge amount of it’s loyal fans from the time of merger with Microsoft- and new Windows Phone deal .
In the recent interview aired on a Finnish TV, Risto Siilasmaa, a member of the Nokia board of directors, said that company has " a backup plan" if Windows Phone 8 fails. And the rumor mill started to tell that is Android.
Windows Phone has achieved a remarkable number of apps in it’s application store recently , it is marked as passing 50,000 apps by now . If you are a Windows Phone fan boy(probably hard to find one ) ,you may want to say “hurray” ,but from experts’ point of view ,the number of the apps doesn’t matter anyway.
Reportedly ,more than 6,000 apps are found crappy and already removed from the Windows apps store either by Microsoft or the developers themselves .
What phone could be in your hands in 2012 ?
There are lot of arguments going on, at homes about the next purchase of the Smart Phone ,as this is the season of the year .US and UK are two of the hottest markets for smartphone business ever. All vendors are fully armed with their marketing programs to attract more customers .
I personally use Android Phones for more than a year ,and I was a Nokia addict for quite some time ,but not now for sure.I have used Apple iPhones too.
Here are some personal insights about the smart phones ,that could contribute in your decision making this year . Firstly I am simply ignoring Nokia from the list as it doesn’t have any innovative phones at the moment and secondly Windows phone, that did not create any great impact in the market for decades and yet not ready to compete with . Windows Phone is just surviving ,that’s all.
Now the great war is going between iOS and Android ,from my perception
Apple iPhone4S Vs Android Phones (May be Samsung Nexus /Galaxy SII )
The hottest Apple phone in the market is iPhone4S and it is running iOS-5 ,valuable and useful iCloud service and have one 8 Mega Pixel Camera. iPhone runs on a Dual Core processor, offering you a faster UI experience ever .
Most of the Android Phones like Samsung Galaxy SII,Google Galaxy Nexus too have dual core processor ,hi speed UI ,and 8 Meg Cameras , From the people I’ve interviewed ,the votes go for iPhone4S’s camera and the camera UI.
The Camera on the iPhone4S is one of the best cameras available in mobile phones. If you want a stunning camera phone ,you would go for iPhone no doubt. iCloud is there to save all of your contents in the web cloud storage ,sharing the contents between PC environment and the phone is more easier now .
Apple Vs Android – User Interface
Apple’s O/S is perfect and almost the same for years(say “outdated” ),fast and initiative ,but if you are not getting bored soon for doing repeated things ,it can be interesting . But Android phones used to have frequent updates and the UI is growing very faster with hotter features and numerous custom Firmware. Lot of custom ROMs are available for Android than Apple(Rooting and hacking is much easier and permitted indirectly )
Nokia have lost it’s passionate users ,after moving to the Windows Phone . Nokia’s failure of it’s vision made the company to collapse as it is today.
Nokia strongly believed that the Windows Phone will come to the survival of their smart phone business . But the results coming around ,are not good .
Only 2.2 Percent intend to buy Nokia Lumia 800 !
A survey conducted by Exane BNP Paribas reveals only 2.2 percent of people participated in the survey express their desire to buy one Windows Phone from Nokia. The survey has been conducted in the European markets where Nokia Lumia 800 is currently available .
As we expected last year Finally Microsoft have revealed about an offer extended to Nokia to buy the Smart Phone Division . Danske Bank, the largest bank of Denmark has suggested this deal to it’s clients recently.
Nokia’s shares went up by 3% after this news. As per the bank ,Microsoft will buy Nokia’s Smartphone Division in the first half of 2012.
